The Lam Tu Luan Kung Fu school danced and showed off their sweet kung fu skills at the upmarket Newstead Gasworks in Brisbane on Wednesday night.

Just before they donned the lion heads, drums and swords, I caught up with founder Lam Sifu and some of the kung fu school students to talk about this unique Chinese Lunar New Year celebration. They explain what the lion, the lettuce, the dancing Buddha and the drums mean – and what it has to do with kung fu.

Dr Tu Pham is an Australian-born Vietnamese whose parents came to Australia from in the 70s as boat people following the Vietnam War.

Tu Pham graduated as a doctor after studying medicine for 7 years.

With four years’ experience as a general practitioner, Tupham is passionate about using hip hop as a form of political activism to achieve social justice and to raise awareness about health issues.

NEMBC conference series – Mindy Linh talks about ethnic broadcasting

On November 29, the National Ethnic and Multicultural Council is hosting a three day conference in Brisbane at the Brisbane Multicultural Centre and right here at 4EB. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be talking to NEMBC representatives leading up to the conference.

The NEMBC is a body representing ethnic broadcasters – like your friendly 4EB announcers – around Australia. Every year, the NEMBC organise a series of workshops, speakers and meetings to support ethnic broadcasters.

Mindy Linh is an administration officer at the NEMBC and tells us about how she came to get involved with the organisation, and her thoughts on ethnic broadcasting.
